Abstract

The article highlights the geographical component of the educational branch “I Explore the World” in typical curricula for primary school and in the content of textbooks in this branch for grades 1-4 of two teams of authors: N. Bibik, H. Bondarchuk and others, as well T. Hilberg, S. Tarnavska, N. Pavych and others. It was found that in primary school the natural integrated course “I Explore the World” contains a sufficient amount of geographical information. In particular, students learn about their homeland and its geographical objects in the lessons of this course, as well the planet Earth, study the most important geographical objects of Ukraine, continents and oceans, get acquainted with the globe and map, observe the weather, plants and animals at different times of the year and finding out that in nature everything is interconnected, and so on. It was found that the geographical educational outcomes of students from grade to grade are expanding, deepening and complementing during the study of the course “I Explore the World” in grades 1-4. It was also found that there is continuity in the content of education in primary and basic education. Thus, the content of the model curriculum "Natural Sciences" (integrated course) for grades 5-6 of general secondary education provides students with further knowledge of objects of general physical geography and geographical objects of Ukraine, continents and oceans. In particular, the repetition of material about the solar system and the Earth as a system, the influence of the Sun and Moon on our planet and the influence of the Earth's motion on animate and inanimate nature, the study of information about the distribution of the light and the heat on the earth's surface, the Earth's magnetic field and its significance for animals and humans, the internal structure of the Earth and its shell, the population of the planet Earth, fuel resources of the Earth, energy problems in Ukraine and in the world, etc. The analysis of geographical concepts contained in the model curriculum "Natural Sciences" for grades 5-6 of secondary schools showed that with almost all geographical concepts found in the program for 5th grade students get acquainted in primary school for the first time. In the program for 6th grade the number of geographical concepts is growing. The vast majority of them are new. That is, model curricula of integrated courses in natural education for the adaptation cycle (grades 5-6) of general secondary education (2021) implement the continuity between primary and basic education and lay the foundation for further study of independent natural subjects, including geography in grades 6-9.
