Abstract

The aim of the study is to review the updated EU benchmarks of the European education area development in the face of the modern challenges. It is stated that the challenges of the 21st century transform the benchmarks of the EU education and training policy. A concept of skills is named as a perspective in this context. The concept is outlined in the European Skills Agenda (2020) and is reflected in all new documents governing the development of education and training in the EU. It is concluded that the concept of skills is an umbrella that unites EU initiatives aimed at mastering the skills / qualifications / competencies of the Europeans for the revival of Europe and its advanced development in the world. Interconnectedness with the economy and social life and adaptation to each level of education are important aspects of the skills concept for the Ukrainian education.
