Abstract

Current trends in the field of reading of Ukrainian primary school students and their peers in foreign countries in the context of globalization challenges are analyzed. The reading preferences of children of different countries by genre-thematic direction, author's affiliation are characterized; Emphasis is placed on gender differences in students ’reading preferences, negative trends in students’ reading related to their active interaction with screen technologies and media influence. The current tasks that need to be solved have been identified, taking into account the current situation of the development of reading activities of junior schoolchildren in our country and abroad.
