Abstract

The review article analyzes new jobs on the rise in the market. Studies have showed that about 5,000 jobs become obsolete within 10 years while almost the same amount of new jobs emerges. In the coming years, 40–50% of jobs may disappear or be transformed. Simultaneously, new jobs will appear increasing the need in skills transformation. The most promising areas for the jobs of the future include information technology, biotechnology, robotics, mechanical and power engineering, ecology, healthcare, transport etc. The article reveals and groups key skills of the future. New jobs will require employees to develop new skills. In the first place, the latter include general skills important for all jobs in all the segments, namely: 1) information skills – active use of ICT and new network instruments; 2) cross-functional skills – knowledge in several areas, the ability to work at the intersection of several jobs, 3) communication skills – inter-sector communication and the customer-oriented approach; 4) management skills – change management, decision-making skills, effective distribution of workload and resources, 5) language skills – multilingualism and multiculturalism; and 6) environmental awareness meaning that environmental concerns must be taken into account in all the areas. The study has revealed that both formal and non-formal training for new jobs is available. The analysis of the programs for new jobs has showed that they are offered by the universities of the UK, the Netherlands, Canada, Sweden, the US, etc. However, new jobs are rising faster than new bachelor and master’s degree programs are developed, and non-formal education can help to close the gap. To master new jobs, people can follow a practical approach and get on-the-job training, or take online courses or short-term programs.
