Abstract

This article analyzes the content of the notion as a “hearing impairment”, “deaf”, “person with reduced hearing”. It opens the results of terminological analysis of the concepts as a “sign bilingualism”, “sign-spoken bilingualism” and “bimodal bilingualism”. It determines the bilingual sign-spoken approach to education as bimodal-bilingual approach. It characterizes the development peculiarities of the bimodal-bilingual approach to deaf and hard-of-hearing education based on the analysis of education experience of Sweden and the United States. Based on the comparative analysis it opens the similar and divergences of the positions of bimodal-bilingual approach in that countries.
