Abstract

The introduction of an inclusive education system in Ukraine has initiated a revision of the terms relating to human developmental disabilities and the functional capabilities of persons with disabilities. These changes have also been met by international requirements, which emphasize the importance of preserving human dignity and preventing the stigmatization and discrimination of persons with disabilities. Instead, practice shows that changes in terminology are not always accompanied by changes in the attitudes of people, namely children, young people with disabilities, which reduces the success of the introduction of inclusive education and the assertion of the principles of dignity of every person. Understanding the place and meaning of the use of terms related to human functional capabilities is important both for professionals and for building a tolerant inclusive society.
