Abstract

This publication was prepared by the author's team of the Department of Leadership and Institutional Development of Higher Education of the Institute of Higher Education of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine based on the results of research "Mechanisms for effective governance in Ukrainian universities in European integration" (2018-2020). The monograph substantiates the theoretical foundations of effective governance in universities, analyzes the leading domestic and foreign experience in implementing effective governance in universities and based on the above identified mechanisms for effective governance in universities and formulated practical recommendations for their implementation in higher education in Ukraine.It is emphasized that one of the fundamental requirements for the successful European integration of Ukrainian universities is to ensure that they profess European values, respect for academic freedoms, social justice, responsibility and integrity in their social environment. It is proposed to consider the development of personal potential of the subjects of the university as an integral criterion for the effectiveness and efficiency of governance and a determining factor in ensuring its competitiveness.It is substantiated that the most favorable conditions for the development of personal potential, and therefore human capital, are created only in a democratic environment, the formation of which is ensured by government. The author's team hopes that the results presented in the monograph, conclusions and recommendations will contribute to the development of research on relevant topics, as well as the practice of effective governance in Ukrainian universities.
