Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the main developments on the problem of subjective representations presented in the history of psychology. Subjective representation of an object means a set of characteristics and properties that, in the opinion of the individual, are inherent to this object. It was shown that subjective representations as a separate subject of research were studied in gestalt psychology, Geneva school of genetic psychology, cognitivism (first of all, in such areas as New Look and representation theory of mind), Soviet psychology of reflection, the theory of social representations. The analysis allows us to talk about both the scientific achievements and the flaws in each of these approaches.
