Abstract

The article describes the main stages o f life and scholarly career o f the famous Ukrainian scholar, educator andacademician Semen Honcharenko. It justifies the periodization o f the scholar s life and scholarly and pedagogical careerand considers the processes o f forming and developing his personality. The article also clarifies and characterizes themain factors in forming his scholarly and pedagogical views; family education (parents had influence with his son; theysupported his thirst for knowledge); social environment (his studies at Kirovohrad Pedagogical Institute); positive influ­ence o f the teaching staff; teaching activities (theoretical, methodical and practical professional and pedagogical trainingofpupils); research activity (publication o f scholarly and pedagogical works); the system o f education within which thepersonality o f Semen Honcharenko was developed; scholarly and pedagogical environment; the constant striving for self­study, creative self-improvement and self-realization, independent scholarly and pedagogical enquiries.The conducted research on S. Honcharenko s personality mostly includes determining the main stages o f his life andscholarly and pedagogical career, which are caused by external changes (professional growth, changes ofplaces to stay,etc.), as well as the internal evolution o f his views, emergence and development o f new ideas, theories, etc. The study andanalysis o f previously unknown archival and other sources made it possible to distinguish the main periods o f life andscholarly and pedagogical career o f Semen Honcharenko as follows: the period offamily education (1928-1948), theperiod o f his early teaching days and development o f his pedagogical views (1948-1958), the period ofscholarly enquires(1958-1993), the period o f scholarly and theoretical generalization o f pedagogical views (1994-2013). Each o f theseperiods was characterized by significant changes in the life and views o f the famous educatorThe article specifies that the personality o f Semen Honcharenko combined high professionalism o f the scholar and thebest qualities o f the human spirit. His extraordinary research talent became a vivid manifestation o f the inspired sen’iceo f science and society. Semen Honcharenko enriched science with important and valuable discoveries and became aworld-renowned scholar, an authoritative researcher and a wise educator.
