Abstract
The article describes the essence and specificity of the concept of “professional competence of adults”; theoretical aspects of the development of adult professional competence in formal and non-formal education are analyzed; the conditions for ensuring the effective development of professional competence as an indicator of adult professional growth in formal and non-formal education are considered. The most effective forms and methods of developing the professional competence of adults in postgraduate education as one of the most common forms of formal education and in non-formal education are analyzed. Prospects for further research are defined, namely: professional development of adults in the context of information education.
