Abstract

The article represents the results of theoretical research aimed at determining the journalist’s professionally important qualities and psychological characteristics. It is established that there is no any model of ability for all journalist’s professional specializations. The advantages of the journalist's profession are: the prestige of the profession, social significance and creative realization, fees, opportunity to meet interesting people. The limitations of the profession are: unregulated working day, intensive work rate, frequent business trips, risk to life. It is noted that journalism is one of the most stressful professions among many other professions. Journalistic creativity is a complex psychological process that involves the intellectual, emotional and volitional spheres of a specialist in mass communications. It is determined that the main journalist’s professionally important qualities are: desire for constant self-development, excellent command of oral and written languages, observability, developed analytical and imaginative thinking, high emotional stability and hardiness. The hardiness characterizes peronal ability of the individual to withstand a stressful situation, maintaining internal balance, without reducing the success of the activity. The prospects for further research are to conduct an empirical study aimed at investigating the factors of a journalist's professional hardiness.
