Abstract

The article deals with the chronological order of the birth of special education for children with intellectual disabilities in Poland. The author analyzes social status, way of life, forms of care, education, education of children with intellectual disabilities from the ancient times to the beginning of the twentieth century. The article briefly describes the activities of scientists, nongovernmental associations to help children with intellectual disabilities. Also noted are the changes that took place in this direction in Poland due to changes in sociopolitical situations in the country.
