Abstract

The author has found out that the project top managers play a key role in creating highly effective project teams. They recruit the staff, form teams, conduct training, develop understanding of a common goal and shared vision of the problem, form and manage a system of rewards that helps support the overall team efforts, direct a decision-making process, resolve conflicts within the team, lead the team process by inspiring all members with their own example. Creation and functioning of a project team structure is a multi-stage and long process covering a number of stages: formation of a team, when the acquaintance and the team roles dividing takes place, the development of a team providing the process of consolidation and mutual understanding, the productive activities of the team, thanks to which the purpose of the project is gained, and the disbandment / reorganization of the team. The readiness of a top manager to formation of a project team structure is determined by such key criteria as: understanding the benefits of teamwork, the ability to effectively distribute roles in the team, the skills of organizing team processes, the orientation on results taking into account the strategic goals of the organization. Each of these criteria has indicators that are analyzed in this article. As a result of the competent and scientifically substantiated management by the top manager, the project teams that have undergone a process of formation through all the stages of the group dynamics development, can achieve a high level of organization and teamwork skills.
