Abstract

The article is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding scientist-defectologist, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor IG Eremenko. The article covers theoretically grounded provisions on the content, principles of methods and forms of teaching, education and preparation of mentally retarded students for independent life and work. The views of the scientist on the concept of education of children with intellectual disabilities, the specifics of the learning process in auxiliary school are revealed. The ideas of the differentiated approach to the organization of students' educational activity from the point of view of their conformity with the tasks that are faced with modern special education as paramount are highlighted. Emphasized on the individual approach to each student.
