Abstract

The paper covers the main ideas regarding the rôle of a libraiy in the organisation ofmethodical work at school suggested by V.O. Sukhomlynskyi in his Pedahohichnyi kolektyv serednoi shkoly (Pedagogical community of secondary school), Metodyka vvkhovannia kolektyvu (Methods of framing community), Sto porad uchytelex i (One hundred pieces of advice for teachers), Pavlvska serednia shkola (Pavlysh secondary school), and Rozmo- va z molodym dyrektorom shkoly (Conversation with a young head teacher). It was found out that the library played an important role in Pavlysh secondary school, since it was an efficient means of improving and developing teachers ’professional skills, exchanging professional experience, and acquiring new methodical knowledge, i. e. learning new forms and methods of training. The methodical work of the school included teacher’s library, pedagogical library', head teacher's library, pedagogical discussion of methodical literature, discussion of books with pupils, selection of books for reading in out-of-school hours, discussion of methods of training, library circle, and discussion of problems of reading during teachers ’ meetings. In the course of creative cooperation the teachers and the library developed the means how to connect the library with methodical work. Being rational kernels for information support of educational process, these means can obtain new life in modern school libraries. No doubt, school librarians should be well-informed about the content of training, curricula, and directions of methodical work, since they are responsible for school library acquisition and take part in providing information support to educational process using innovative forms and methods. V.O. Sukhomlynskyi’s ideas are relevant now in the course of development of the new Ukrainian school, new informational challenges and discourses about the mode of school library). The further research prospects can be focused on the study of the role of a libraiy in the development ofmethodical knowledge of a young teacher.
