Abstract

The article presents the results of a study of the psychodiagnostic capabilities of the test “Life Style Index” (LSI) of R. Plutchik, H. Kellerman. It was established: 1) the test corresponds to psychometric requirements, 2) the use of the Ukrainian version of the test on a sample of Ukrainian high school students is legitimate, 3) understanding the meaning of the statements of the Ukrainian version of the test by the subjects is adequate. Verification of distinctive ability of the test units showed a satisfactory result. The high sensitivity of the scales of the questionnaire, representing the protective mechanisms of repression, reactive formation, displacement, intellectualization, compensation and regression to the gender factor, has been revealed. Satisfactory consistency of scales, representing such psychological defense mechanisms (PDM) as reactive formation, regression, displacement was established according to the criterion of α-Cronbach. Оn the contrary, such inventories as compensation, repression, denial and projection turned out to be problematic in the context of diagnostic reliability. Check on the normal distribution of test scales showed the impossibility of its linear stand ardization. For this reason, the test was standardized on example of Ukrainian high school students (N = 471) according to a nonlinear model in the scale of the stanines, in the male and female versions of the test scales. Relationships were established between separate psychological defense mechanisms and the level and quality of social and communicative personality adaptation. This further confirms the predictive validity of the test “Life Style Index” and the validity of its use in the Ukrainianlanguage sample.
