Abstract

The art of architecture, which has a huge educational potential, is still insufficiently used in the aesthetic education of students of general educational institutions of Ukraine. In order to strengthen the architectural component of the current, we need update the educational content with new names and original works. The article is devoted to the Claude Nicolas Ledoux, an outstanding and still lesser-known in Ukraine, the French architect of the period of Classicism that influenced the emergence of Empire style. Moreover, Claude Nicolas Ledoux was ahead of his time in the most daring projects becoming a forerunner of avant-garde. The article shows that it combines the creative searches and findings of Ledoux with the avant-garde artists of the XX century, as well as parallels with modern architecture. The article describes the main stages of the architect’s creativity in their connection with historical circumstances and features of the social life of France in the second half of the XVIII and the beginning of XIX centuries. The examples of the most interesting works have revealed the peculiarities of the individual style of the architect. Claude Nicolas Ledoux made an innovative contribution to the art of architecture, in particular – the project “Ideal City” of Chaux and his unusual structures. The article also reflects the dramatic collisions of the life and work of architect who destroyed the stereotypes and predicted the future. Therefore his most daring projects were appraised only in the XX century. Ledoux’s ideas of enlightenment, civic responsibility, persuasion in the educational mission of architecture do not lose its relevance today. Ledoux’s artistic legacy is an unmistakable value for the entire world culture. Consequently, he must be knowledgeable not only in a limited professional environment, but also among teachers, students, students. This material should be used in the 10-11th grades in general secondary education institutions as a supplement material to the basic educational content, as well as for designing interesting creative tasks in order to schoolchildren’s aesthetic education and development.
