Abstract

Patriotism and citizenship are most in demand among spiritual priorities. The public request for a citizen-patriot has to decide the fate of Ukraine. Nowadays, the Ukrainian people protect not only their independence and sovereignty, but also prevent the violation of the rights and freedoms of citizens in Western Europe. The solution of this universal task requires the formation of the only spiritual and moral dominant in humanity that would ensure sustainable and peaceful coexistence. Therefore, the above-mentioned values should be central in the hierarchy of the inner world of young people. In the conditions of the Ukrainian multi-ethnic society, patriotism and citizenship require from personality not only acquisition of the cultural values of their own ethnic group, but also awareness of connection of ethno-cultures of the Ukrainian political nation in the past and the future, common destiny and aim for all ethnic groups. The citizen-patriot respects culture, customs, and traditions of representatives of other ethnic groups. Currently, a surge of patriotism and citizenship has never been during all the years of Ukraine’s independence. Moreover, patriotism and citizenship are not local, regional, but national and civil, which manifest in love and responsibility to the Homeland, people, state, willingness to protect these great sacred values. Therefore, patriotic and civic education should be a priority in educational institutions.
