Abstract

Development of a valuable component of citizenship competences of school principals predetermined by the challenges of a new Ukrainian school, which base on the values of a democratic society, the growing role of the communities of all levels in democratic changes of education. Development of this component should be an important part of in – service education of school principals. In – service programs «Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education» (6 h., 12 h., 24 h., 72 h.) pay attention to a valuable sense of their professional activity, the role of citizenship competences of school principals in democratic changes of the local community. These programs offer school principals guidance and support in meeting new challenges. The programs contain a collection of models for interactive and task-based learning which help the school principals understand better & accept the values of democratic society, provide role models for mutual respect, tolerance and peaceful resolution of conflict, focus primarily on democratic rights and responsibilities and active participation, relation to the civic, political, social, economic, legal and cultural spheres of society. The programs pay particular attention to the axiological component of citizenship competences of school principals, which are the basis of perfection of the individual & the whole society: spirituality, freedom, creativity, tolerance, love & have orientation towards universal moral and ethical, socio-political values.
