Abstract

On the basis of the analysis of pedagogical works of V. O. Sukhomlinsky his ideas concerning the role of the teacher in patriotic education feelings of students are revealed. Formation of love and respect for the native land is an important vector of the educational process, which enables students to fully develop and realize themselves in adulthood. It is argued that the education of patriotic feelings should be at the heart of the educational process, where the key figure is a teacher who needs to become an example of a conscious citizen, who takes an active life position, knows the history of his people, is fluent in Ukrainian for the formation of schoolchildren, for the future of the country, loyalty and love for the Motherland, readiness to serve her, to stand up for her. The considerations of a prominent Ukrainian teacher, who worked under the conditions of the Soviet ideologue, have not lost their relevance and nowadays in independent Ukraine in the course of building a new Ukrainian school. The methods and methods of teaching used in his pedagogical activity V. O. Sukhomlinsky allow the teacher not only to promote the accumulation of students’ knowledge, but also their effective application in different life situations, to develop basic general and subject competences that are the basis of the modern education system. The main statements are as follows: the teacher is entrusted with the responsible mission of educating the students in the love of their native land, the Ukrainian people, their traditions and culture; students should be made aware that they are responsible for the future of their own country and its further development; effective means of nurturing patriotic feelings are native language and literature, history, fairy tale, song, art, nature, which create the necessary psychological atmosphere that helps to increase the motivational component of knowledge of the Motherland in all its spheres.
