Abstract
The paper analyzes the dissertation research and articles in professional periodicals pedagogical 1940-1960-ies, devoted to the problem of pedagogical characteristics of pupils of secondary schools. Found that this problem was considered by scientists in the context of the development of the principle of individual approach to student. It is proved that given the socio-cultural situation in the Soviet Union during the study period, studies on the problem of pedagogical characteristic include an expressive ideological component. Is given a few programs (schemes) pupil learning and the construction of its characteristics.
