Abstract

The article defines the concept of emotional intelligence. Development of skills how to use emotional intelligence of future music teachers is an important component of their professional competence. The author determines some ways of development of this skill as a significant part of the reforms of the New Ukrainian School. It was found that future music teachers have a low level of emotional intelligence based on the empirical research of EQ method by D. Liusin. This method is based on the idea of emotional intelligence as a mixed construct that combines cognitive abilities and personal characteristics (curiosity to the inner world of people, a tendency to psychological analysis of behavior). The special course called “Emotional Intelligence. Development of Emotional Intelligence by Means of Art” can help to solve this problem. The special course is aimed at forming future music teachers’ knowledge, skills and abilities in order to use emotional intelligence as well as develop it by means of art. The purpose of the special course is to provide theoretical information about the essence of concept of “emotion”, “emotional intelligence”, technologies of development of emotional intelligence; to show methods how to identify, analyze and establish relationships between emotions, develop empathy with another person and influence on one’s emotional state; to reveal the possibilities of managing and correcting one’s own emotions through art classes. The program of the special course consists of lectures and practical classes which reveal the basic concepts.
