Abstract

The article analyzes the problems of psychological support, the need for which is very high in the Ukrainian society today. These problems are the large-scale involvement, unformed motivation and lack of adequate conditions for the support itself. It is shown that the theatrical form of improvisation of real personal stories – Playback Theatre – whilst being the group work with individual stories, cannot be the psychotherapy. Playback Theatre is defined as psychological counseling that affects the personality of narrators through expressed therapeutic effects: the willingness to be open, the gradual self-disclosure, self-determination in the narrative, acting out traumatic feelings, alienation from the traumatic experience, the saturation of the narrative. It is proved that Playback Theatre allows working with large groups of people, with poorly motivated people and in difficult conditions.
