Abstract
The article reveals the priority tasks of the period of studying the first-graders' literacy in the conditions of the New Ukrainian School: the formation of reading and writing skills, the development of oral speech, cognitive abilities, interest in educational activities, and the enrichment of children's life experiences. There is presented the system of methods and tasks for their realization and method of its application.
