Abstract
The article examines torture as a phenomenon of human cruelty, describes the psychological consequences that are caused by it and discusses the need to distinguish mental states after torture into a separate diagnostic category. The article also presents the results of the modern researches on the effectiveness of psychotherapy in working with torture survivors. Attention is drawn to the importance of common effective factors in constructing a model of psychotherapeutic or psycho-rehabilitation work. Examples of effective models of work with such a group of victims are given.
