Abstract
The textbook for the elective course "Country Studies: Spain, Latin America" for students of the 10th and 11th grades has an informational and educational character, it provides information on contemporary Spain and Latin America. The manual contains sections on the state system, the press, young people and their lives, the culture of Spain and the Hispanic countries of Latin America (music, dance, cinema, theater, paintings, holidays, traditions and customs). The content of the manual motivates students to learn Spanish, promotes the development of educational, communicative skills and capabilities. The course teaches to read, understand, analyze and use the information received both in class and in everyday life, simultaneously improves communicative skills in oral and written forms. Students learn to formulate, express and motivate their opinions on the proposed topics, hold discussions, write short essays, letters, articles, and create projects in Spanish. The proposed exercises and tasks are aimed at learning to work in a team, to rationally distribute roles, to compare information and to make reasoned conclusions. The suggested elective course is intended for students of high school (grades 10-11), Spanish language teachers as well as for students of language departments of higher educational institutions.
