Abstract

The article highlights the importance of an early detection and cochlear implantation in the process of rehabilitation of children with severe hearing disorder; it reveals the essence of early intervention, the concept of cochlear implant, emphasizes the importance of correctional work and complex training in the work with such children. The author of the article points out that it is necessary to examine a child‘s hearing as soon as possible in order to detect any hearing disorder. As a result, children even with insignificant hearing disorder have a chance to learn how to hear and speak. Mass preventive audiologic screening pediatric examinations must be performed at an early age. The author explains that teaching methods are not enough to solve the problem of deafness. Cochlear implantation with subsequent correction and training work is of a great help to such a child. Only this complex approach can help a child to develop fully, since even modern digital hearing devices are not of a great help with sensorineural hearing loss. Presently, the cochlear implantation is the most efficient means of rehabilitation of people with severe hearing disorder in the world. In Ukraine, it also becomes more widespread. Since the first three years of a child‘s life are important for auditory and verbal development, they are the most promising candidates for cochlear implantation. Thus, the number of children with implantation increases worldwide, as well as in Ukraine. The author disproves the idea that a deaf child with the implantation immediately becomes a productive member of society. It should be taken into account that, since the cochlear implant cannot fully restore the affected auditory analyzer, the surgery is not as important as subsequent auditory and verbal rehabilitation. Therefore the rehabilitation must be performed by qualified professionals together with the active participation of parents and other significant people. It requires developing and implementing a complex support of children with cochlear implants.
