Abstract
The transformation of the educational ideals merchant diverse segments of Ukrainian society within the legal framework of the Russian Empire. Revealed common features educational ideals of different layers of the merchant class (justifiable risk, economic pragmatism, strict religious, apolitical orientation). It was found that the main differences of merchant educational ideals were caused by property stratification condition and ethnic origin characteristics of its representatives were analyzed in the article. Attention is focused on the specifics of the educational ideal of Ukrainian merchants (dominance of Christian moral and spiritual values of utilitarian and pragmatic, respect for customers and partners, trust, restraint, deliberateness, cautioness, not great propensity for risk, temperance of business inquiries, apolitical efficiency, strong connection with the system of ideological orientations and values of the Russian Empire). Characterized the most significant changes in the structure of the merchant educational ideal: the significance educational growth of the semantic component, reorientation of focusin on important social affairs, the dominance of social responsibility and local patriotism).
