Abstract
The author analyzes the current state o f skilled workers’ training for various branches of the Ukrainian economy; differences in the ratio concerning the number o f university and vocational school graduates are discussed. Besides, the article focuses on the changes which are taking place on the domestic labour market, namely the slowdown in production at the domestic plants, reduction o f employment in almost all the economic sectors, growing tendency towards non-standard employment and migration o f the country’s skilled workers, etc. The article reveals the need for the effective use o f scientific and technological achievements, including the results of basic and applied research as regards vocational education and training issues. Major attention is focused on scientific studies concerning blue-collar career guidance for young people, choosing and making a professional career; creation o f occupational and educational standards based on the modular and competence approach; development of new blue-collar occupations, including the integrated (aggregated) ones; improvement in the professional and pedagogical skills o f teachers and tutors, and their readiness to self-develop and use information and communication technologies, electronic teaching aids and information analytical systems for vocational education.
