Abstract

The thesis presents the socio-philosophical analysis of the current state of Higher Education of Ukraine and its dependence on Ukrainian society under the influence of modern civilizational context. The author demonstrates that taking into account the peculiarities of the civilizational development in Ukraine, the modern mission of the national high school should be significantly more extensive in comparison with the mission of Western European universities, since the latter play a stabilizing role in social development in their countries, while the domestic institutions of higher education are called to fulfill propaedeutic mission in the development of Ukrainian society. On this basis, it justified that on the one hand, higher education as a social institution is a self-contained social system, and on the other hand, it is a subsystem of the society in which it operates and on which depends. In return, society and its higher education interact with the civilizational context, that is with the external environment, the impact of which is becoming more important due to the globalization of modern humanity. Since higher education is a subsystem of the society, the internal system factors affect its state and its operation at first hand, therefore, initially. While the external to the community factors have indirect effects on it, which can be amplified by society, or on the contrary, be annihilated or even blocked. This implies that higher education as a social institution depends primarily and to a greater extent on its society than on civilizational context. The study suggests an approach to understanding the problem of competence in civilizational and social contexts. It reveals the key role of the ideological competence in the functioning of modern civilization that calls for a formation of not only adequate scientific and theoretical, but also practical outlook, the basis of which should be the common values that direct human activity to the preservation and development of life on earth. Civilizational cynicism as an attribute of civilization distorts the worldview and social consciousness. In overcoming civilizational problems it is needed to be based on the basic principles of the human race – the mind, the conscience, the morality and the natural law, by means of which human beings, in their long precivilizational social evolution could separate themselves from the animal world and then, as a result, enter the civilization phase of its development. The author investigates the possibilities of civilized definition of modernization of education in Ukraine. The work validates the warnings about cultivating the slogan "society of knowledge" as the metamorphosis of technocratic scientism under which knowledge considered and promoted as a potential benefit, self-worth. And it remains without attention, however, that the knowledge has potential power of destruction, when directed to the creation of evil, not good. This becomes evident in the practical embodiment of knowledge. It is proved that the quality of society is not determined by the quality of knowledge, but on the contrary, society initially affects the quality of knowledge, and most importantly – their relevance and focus in measurements of good or evil in the objectification of social existence as a reality. The work illuminates the conceptual analysis of the current state of Ukrainian higher education through the prism of the actualization of the student identity. Such approach to the study is motivated by the fact that every reform of high school in order to improve the quality of higher education will be stalled and won't give the desired result as long as the students are not motivated to get qualitative higher education, and not to get just a diploma, which legitimizes its existence. As part of this goal, the educational paradigm of the educational process is critically analyzed and the problems of fundamental and system updates of the content of the training of specialists in the Ukrainian higher school is highlighted. When comprehending the mission of higher education and clarifying its role and place in the modern Ukrainian society, the negative effects on the development of civilization in case of loss of identity by classical universities was considered. It was also noted that one of the most important characteristics or attributes of the identity of high school was a fundamental training of specialists. Democratization is validated as a means of overcoming the incompetence and non-alternative way of system improvement of the Ukrainian society and its higher education.
